Among other things, she stands for immortality (with her peaches of immortality) and is the Queen Mother of the West and a kind of protector, including for women and the female principle Yin.

I painted her with the tiger as a symbol of clarity and protection, and portrayed her in a dancing pose for the core message of this painting: Your life is happening now – so celebrate and enjoy the current moment in which you are alive. With her oversized robe, which drapes like a veil over half of this painting while gliding through the air, the goddess Xiwangmu expresses that everything in life is fluid and constantly changing.

In my series Essence, I portray well-known goddesses from various cultures and place them in a modern context: These symbols are timeless and remind you of what always is: Your true essence, your power. Unlike in my series Mythology in this series I also consciously abstract the goddess figures themselves a bit, by only rendering them partially realistically. This emphasizes their symbolic character and invites you to bring your own interpretation into the respective image.

The image was created in multiple layers using collage, acrylic and oil paints, spray paints, and gold paint.

You can see the development process here:

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.
