The Greek goddess Athena and her meaning: wisdom and perception
The goddess Athena has a special significance - then as now:
She stands for wisdom, strategic thinking, art, craftsmanship and protection. Her role as patron goddess of the city of Athens, which was named after her, is particularly striking. Her faithful companion, the owl, symbolizes clear-sightedness, intelligence and wisdom. But how can the goddess Athena and her meaning be transferred to our modern world?
The goddess Athena: meaning and mythology
Athena, also known as Pallas Athena, is one of the twelve Olympic deities and is considered the daughter of Zeus. Her birth was as extraordinary as her nature: She sprang from her father's head, fully armed and resplendent. This unusual birth emphasizes her connection to intellect and strategic thinking.
Athena is not only the goddess of wisdom, but also a warrior. In contrast to Ares, the god of bloody war, however, she stands for strategic warfare, diplomacy and the pursuit of justice. Her protective function is also reflected in her role as protector of the heroes - Odysseus, for example, owes her numerous helpful interventions.
The owl: the spirit animal of wisdom
The owl is Athena's best-known spirit animal. It is considered an observer of the night and stands for clear vision in darkness and chaos. In Greek mythology, the owl was the symbol of knowledge and spiritual alertness - a sign that true wisdom offers guidance even in difficult times.
The owl was also a lucky charm in ancient times. It was depicted on coins of the city of Athens and was seen as a sign of prosperity and protection. To this day, the animal is a symbol of a sharp mind and the ability to think outside the box.
The goddess Athena in modern times
The themes that Athena stands for are timeless. In today's world, she symbolizes the combination of intelligence and drive, of inner strength and strategic action. She reminds us that life is not just about overcoming problems, but solving them with thought and insight.
Athena also stands for the art of self-control and clear thinking - qualities that are often lost in our hectic times. Her shield, a symbol of protection, can be interpreted today as an inner protective space that we need to create in order to arm ourselves against external influences and stress.
It also inspires you to trust your own perception more and to let go of the (inner) battle against yourself. What if you could also let go of the struggle in your life more and more and trust life more - because you have access to your inner wisdom?

My picture of Athena and the owl
In my picture Athena and the owl I have tried to transport the timeless strength and wisdom of this goddess into the present day. The focus is on Athena's inner strength and her connection to the owl, which symbolizes mental clarity and intuition.
Modern elements in the picture
To emphasize the modern aspect, I used spray paints that give the work dynamism and freshness. The bright, almost urban colors contrast with the classical depiction of the goddess. The fact that her face is completely pale is intentional, to give her a timeless expression as well. We could all be Athena or develop her qualities in ourselves.
The shield, one of the most important symbols of Athens, is only indicated as a white lineart. It thus becomes an abstract element and no longer only symbolizes protection from external enemies, but also the protection of our inner strength.
The owl as a central symbol
The owl is also depicted in a reduced form, which brings it more into focus. As Athena's constant companion, she stands for wisdom and intuition - qualities that we also need in our modern lives in order to face challenges with clarity and confidence.

This picture is an invitation to discover the powers of the goddess Athena within yourself: Wisdom, strength and the courage to strategically approach life's challenges. It shows that ancient symbols are not outdated, but can still have an impact in our modern world - if we are prepared to reinterpret their message.
Athena and the owl remind you that true strength comes from a combination of mind, heart and inner peace. They encourage you not to be overwhelmed by external circumstances, but to find within yourself the shelter that gives you wisdom and security.
The Greek goddess Athena teaches us that wisdom lies not only in knowledge, but also in strategic action and the protection of one's own inner strength. My picture Athena and the owl is intended to carry this message into our modern age - as a symbol of clarity, strength and inner balance.
Discover Athena in yourself, who also fights tirelessly for wisdom and justice in our world.
