Medusa's meaning: I am more than my story
We all carry both light and dark aspects within us. But when you try to suppress your so-called shadow sides or negative traits and present yourself in a certain light to the outside world, it can become exhausting.
If you want people to see only one specific side of you and constantly control the image you present, how free are you really?
To do this, you must mentally view yourself from the outside, evaluate yourself, and decide whether or not you’re currently being “right.” That can be incredibly draining.
Medusa is a figure from Greek mythology who symbolizes both light and shadow: the innocent girl who was wronged and ultimately turned into a feared monster. She remains trapped in her story and the injustice she experienced, seemingly unable to break free. Yet today, she is also seen as a symbol of feminine power, having survived so much.
In the spirit of this card, her message for you is that you can let go of what others might think of you—because you never really have control over that. What truly matters is what you think of yourself and whether you can embrace all parts of who you are. Only you give your so-called shadow sides a negative meaning—if you choose to.
Recognize that you can be free right now in this very moment: free from everything that’s already in the past and no longer in your control, and also free from what others might think of you.
