Do you still remember who you really are? – My new series ESSENCE
What if the stories of ancient goddesses were not just stories from a long-gone era at all? In fact, they tell of what has always defined us humans:
With Essence, I reinterpret goddesses from various cultures – not as distant, superhuman beings, but as embodiments of our true inner strength. For each goddess, I combine her original symbolism with animals, plants, and other elements that represent her qualities.
This is about topics that are still with us today: Courage, freedom, creativity, change, self-confidence, wisdom, love and the connection to ourselves.
Unlike in my previous series Mythology the goddesses in Essence appear significantly more abstract. Transparent, colored figures meet realistically crafted details, while structural paste, collage, and expressive impasto areas create an exciting contrast.
At its core, it is about not having to become anyone else, but rather remembering who you are, who you really are.
What defines you when you strip away everything others expect of you? What remains when you look behind your roles, doubts, and conceptions of yourself?
Your essence.
